TINY SOFTWARE outfit Microsoft has released a patch for its software in a bid to stave off another worldwide Sasser-like virus infection.

The patch, which is among nine others released yesterday, is rated as critical and took Vole more than 95 days to fix.

The flaw was spotted by security outfit eEye Digital Security which said that it would only be a matter of time before hackers worked out an exploit to hit those companies which did not patch fast enough.

A spokesEye said the flaw could be used to create an outbreak similar to the Sasser worm that crippled computers worldwide.
