Google set to become UK's top ad earner

Move over ITV
Monday, 5 March 2007, 09:48
GOOGLE'S seemingly-unstoppable growth continues.

Figures released in the US predict that it will soon overtake ITV to become the UK's top advertising medium. UK revenues soared by more than 80 percent to $1.6 billion last year, according to Searchzilla's latest SEC filing which reveals that the UK is second only to the US in generating ad revenue.

Google is now second only to troubled UK commercial broadcaster ITV, which is expected to reveal disappointing figures later this week.

And the purchase of YouTube indicates that Google obviously has high hopes for the purveyor of amusing sneezing panda video clips - The search firm paid more than a hundred times YouTube's 2006 earnings of $15 million when it bought the company. ยต
