Not as many as he expected

THE TOP SECURITY MAN at Microsoft said that he is happy with the number of bugs that have been found so far in the Vista operating system.

In an IDG interview, Ben Fathi said that he was not surprised with the number of bugs users had found in Vista as he expected users to find some.

But he added that six or nine months ago he wanted to see less than half as many vulnerabilities as XP in the first year. He said that there had been a small number of vulnerabilities in the three months since Vista shipped, and although it was early days yet, Vista was doing better than XP did.

Fathi said he was pretty sure he was on track for his goal of half the number of XP bugs. Of course XP was presented as a secure operating system and when big problems happened, 20/20 hindsight vision switched on at Vole Central.

Fathi led Vole's Security Technology Unit until Vista shipped and is now in charge of the Windows Core Operating System Division. And there is more about this, here. ยต
