AMD, Google, Negroponte to guard newspaper's independence

It's the silly season, right?

A PANEL SET UP to protect Dow Jones' journalism from "interference" from News Corp and Rupert Murdoch has several financial backers - one being Google, one being AMD and Nicholas "One Laptop per Child" Negroponte.

A condition of the sale of Dow Jones, which includes the Wall Street Journal, was that a panel had to be set up to protect the hacks there and ensure editorial independence.

But it appears that Negroponte has financial ties of some kind to Rupert Murdoch.

A more interesting question to us is what a chip company, Goodie Two Shoes, and the One Laptop Per Child geezer anyway have got to do with this anyway? Shouldn't AMD be going out and selling loads of chips?

Has the whole world gone stark staring bonkers? [Yes, Ed.] µ
