AMD may hit 45 nanometres in 2009

According to informed speculation

MARK OSBORNE at Fabtech listened to a conference call from semiconductor kit supplier ASML and infers from it that AMD may not be able to start building 45 nanometre chips until 2009.

He bases that on comments from an ASML exec who said that it's likely NAND will be the first to move to the 45 nano geometry.

Then follows DRAM, and ASML thinks that logic will be 12 to 18 months behind - meaning, he speculates, that AMD would be well behind Intel with a volume ramp for 45 nanometre chips.

There's more and it's here. µ

* During an Intersil conference call today, the firm said: "We also experienced significant design win activity in Q3 with our core power solutions for AMD's Phenom and Opteron, Barcelona processors. We will continue to enjoy modest revenue from these products in Q4 and anticipate a strong ramp in the beginning of 2008."
