SUGAR CRM has released version 5.1 of its open-source customer relationship management software.

The update features an improved analytics engine and streamlined data functions that allows users to import data from external sources such as Salesforce, Outlook and Act.

In addition, a revamped wireless HTML client offers support for various mobile devices, including the BlackBerry and Iphone.

SugarCRM currently claims five million downloads, a user base of 400,000 and 50,000 installations in 195 countries.

Sugar CEO John Roberts attributes the CRM's growing popularity to an industry transition from “lock-in based proprietary systems to an open, standards-based world”.

According to Roberts, users have demanded “freedom and choice in their software, not artificial constraints and dictates from software providers”. µ

Over the last few years, SugarCRM has gone from strength to strength.

5.0 already made this great software ideal for many businesses looking for better management of their sales process. 5.1 should to help every business make maximum the potential of every opportunity and lead despite the difficult economic situation.
