DAAMIT releases Catalyst 6.11

Software Crossfired
Thursday, 16 November 2006, 10:34
ATI/AMD has released a second Catalyst driver in just over two weeks. First it delayed its Catalyst 6.10 until the last day of October and now in the middle of November it has a new driver.

This is good news for those running Call of Duty 2 on Crossfire. The game will speed up for as much as 12.5 per cent at 1920x1200 resolution and you can expect 10.5 per cent improvement at much standard 1280x1024. Well, this works for Crossfire software mode cards only. We don't know if the single card user can gain any performance.

The largest gain comes with 4X Anti Aliasing enabled. The new driver has a new feature where you can mix the X1900/X1950 and have them work with what will be known as software Crossfire support. This will work on either Windows XP or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition but still no Crossfire for Vista. We saw Crossfire at Vista back at August at Games Convention in Leipzig but we still didn't get the driver that would allow us to use it.

Unfortunately, you would not be able to mix X1950 PRO with X1950 XT, XTX or X1900 cards, it won't work. You have to mix X1950PRO with a X1950PRO card only.

DAAMIT also has a new Linux Catalyst 6.11 (8.31.5) and Linux community is pleased. You can now set the display resolution to 400x300, even though I cannot imagine why would you like to do such a thing. The mouse pointer will be able to move at 400x300, a great success I believe. The driver resolved X-server hang on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 systems running Uniprocessor kernels. The media files with X Server 6-9 won't pause and tear up when resizing and X-server won't fail when you set the TV format to PAL-COMB-N.

We advise you to try the new drivers if you have any kind of problem and they lie patiently in wait for you here. We also noticed that DAAMIT has a new way to help you find your driver. It looks just like Nvidia's. µ
