HP downs ads for dual Opteron blades

But it's still taking orders
Fri Apr 15 2005, 08:49
ONLINE PAGES inviting orders for HP blades using dual core processors to be launched next week were downed by the firm yesterday.

See HP starts selling dual core Opteron blades.

But that doesn't mean HP isn't taking orders - it is.

Presumably someone at AMD decided that its other customers, such as IBM, Sun and more importantly the huge raft of white box integrators who boost revenues for the chip firm, decided the early "launch" was all a little too premature.

Some of the INQ's early bird readers even managed to place orders for the ProLiant BL45p systems. A reader placed an order for a blade for $3,000 after talking to an HP rep, and added two further dual core Opterons for $2,000 more. He's expecting delivery within two weeks. He's very pleased, because that will give him great performance for what he said was an unbelievable price.

He said: "I guess I can write lousy code and they will perform just fine on these machines."

He sent us a photograph of his order. Nice system. µ
