McAfee says Microsoft broke Vista promise

The sabres start rattling louder
Friday, 20 October 2006, 08:37
A LAWYER working for McAfee accused Microsoft's CEO and chief lawyer of breaking promises about Vista security it made last week.

Christopher Thomas, who works for McAfee as a litigation lawyer in Brussels, said Steve Ballmer and Brad Smith had given "hollow assurances" last week.

Microsoft said it would cooperate with independent security vendors to protect Vista customers last week.

But, said Thomas: "Despite pledges, press conference and speeches by Microsoft, the community of independent security companies that customers rely on for computer protection has seen little indication that Microsoft intends to live up to the promises it made last week."

He continued: "We have been greatly disappointed by the lack of action by the company so far and Microsoft has not lived up, either in detail or in spirit, to the hollow assurances offered by their top management last week." ยต
