Barrett meddles in Medellín

Globe-trotting update
Monday, 3 December 2007, 17:04

GLOBE-TROTTING Intel chairman, Craig Barrett tipped up in Colombia today to praise Medellín for the way it meddles with technology.

The "Digital Medellín" strategy is great, Barrett reckons, and "should be replicated to better people's lives across the country".

"Providing students with access to computers, trained teachers, local content and the world's information resources will help advance Colombia's social and economic development," he blustered. "Laying this crucial groundwork now will enable Colombia to participate more actively in the global economy," Barrett said, according to Intel.

Barrett also donated an unspecified number of PCs to a remote school in the Andes.

Intel said it would match the number of PCs provided by Medellín's Secretary of Education to the Marina Orth School. The school is favoured by Intel's largesse mostly because it is WiMAXed up, we surmise.

And by the 's' on the end of PC, and lacking any further information, we'll assume Intel's largesse extended to at least two machines. µ
