US politicians tell universities to sort out piracy, or else

THE USE HOUSE of Representatives has told the nation's universities they have to do more to prevent piracy on their networks.

The Science and Technology Committee warned that they would draft more laws unless they did more more to prevent their students from unlawfully swapping music, movies and other copyrighted files on campus networks.

Committee chairman Bart Gordon said that illegal file sharing isn't just about royalty fees. It clogs campus networks and interferes with the educational and research mission of universities.

We can understand why Gordon is so passionate about fighting piracy. He trousered $3,000 from the National Association of Broadcasters and Viacom and Disney this year.
