AS IF to confirm the INQ's recent prediction that LG is the one to watch mobile phonewise, the company has just made its latest entry level phone, the KP202, available in the UK.

"We have seen huge success in LG's premium mobile market over the past few years," claimed Skott Ahn, CEO with LG Electronics Mobile Communications. He was, of course referring to the popular Shine and Chocolate models.

"We are now also focusing on strategically expanding our presence in the entry-level market to strengthen our broader offering in the mobile industry," Ahn explained.

In the UK, this dual screen clamshell design is available on pre-pay for just under £50, which is pretty competitive.

For that you get a VGA resolution camera plus a 128 x 160 pixel screen offering 65K colours in a 1.77 inch format.

At just a tad under 20mm thick, the handset is pretty slim while still managing to offer four hours of continuous talktime. But then it is only a tri-band GSM phone, not a 3G model.

There seems to be some dispute as to how much memory you get as standard with this phone but 4MB seems about right. It utilises an Analog Atlas combined processor and DSP chip which means you've effectively got an ARM7 based handset.

The only mystery is why LG feels the need to describe the handset's lack of an external stubby antenna as possessing an Intenna. Ugh. µ
