AMD's London event was another Barcelona jaunt

HW Roundup Back to school systems reviewed
Tue Jul 31 2007, 05:58
ELITE BASTARDS GOT invited to fly over to London and get more details about the up and the perhaps coming Barcelona marchitecture.

All in all, more power pointery. For a product that is being released in 20 days time, rgw lack of any valid benchmarks eludes any logic.

The last time around, Intel was a happy camper, giving away sheets with benchmarks, showing to press how good Core 2 Duo is.

Then again, some websites were threatened with lawsuits from Intel about showing results from then upcoming Kentsfied quad-core processor… and it all ended with Intel's Paul Otellini stating that particular website is his favourite on IDF couple of weeks later. [Were we invited to this event AMD? Ed.]

ComputerShopper is looking into complete systems for Back-to-School shopping frenzy, and this time tables have turned on Gateway DX430S, mid-range 'puter that worked nice up till the point where something 3D was supposed to be turned on. You've guessed it - integrated crapics ruined all the fun.

Commodore XX Gaming PC got reviewed over at Bit-Tech. When it comes to this company, it has rose from the ashes several times, but this last one confused us a bit. After big talk about testing their system and everything, guys disappeared for couple of months, and now the review is out on Bit-Tech. Nevertheless, interesting to see…

HardwareLogic reviewed ECS G33-M2, motherboard that utilizes chipset that will sadly, find its way into many of the back-to-school computers, offering their owners abysmal 3D performance. This motherboard also found its way onto Hardware Secrets web-site, and their review can be read here.

SysOpt put Western Digital Caviar through its paces. This drive comes with hefty 750 GB in store - silence and cheap price are its best friends.

Keeping in lane with storage theme, Thomas from DVhardware just published a review of SanDisk Cruzer Contour, USB flash drive with a stylish glossy design. If you're into U3 sticks with sliding USB connector, this one is worth a read.

InsideHW showed up with a review of two Antec chassis, the P180 and Nine Hundred. It is a neat touch that a case carries a name "Nine Hundred" instead of computer-world terminology which dictates usage of as much numbers as possible.

Virtual-Hideout followed with a review of Silverstone SG03, redesigned micro-ATX case we reviewed earlier this year. This redesign spots some impressive changes, so if you're into designing a mini-PC, you should give it a look.

DriverHeaven showed up with a review of OCZ ModXstream 780W, a power supply from original OCZ, not the new and posh PC Power & Cooling ones. Therefore, this power supply targets price/performance segment.

To stay connected, Benchmark Reviews came out with a interesting review of D-Link's DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router. It seems odd to us that there aren't many WiFi-N+GbE routers on the market.
