I find your attitude very unprofessional - Unnamed Chaintech executive
WHILE WE KNOW that RX780, AMD's chipset with integrated graphics, will be named 780G (successor of the 690G), there was a question mark over how the company will name its enthusiast chipset. Logic would dictate "790X", since X stand for Crossfire and this is a multi-GPU supporting chipset.
RD790 codename is obviously coming to market as 790FX.
However, according to a picture we received, AMD decided to brand the RD790 as 790FX, leaving pure X for the RD780 (780X),. This suggests that 790FX was originally intended for Phenom FX processors.
Whn it arrives, the 790FX chipset will be a darling for overclockers worldwide, due to the advanced features in its BIOS. This chipset is getting close to release, and this will be first AMD's true enthusiast chipset.
Sadly, since the 790FX was obviously planned to cover both single- and dual-socket motherboards, we can only wonder what could happen if a certain senior figure inside AMD understood the importance of FASN8. You can't teach old dog new tricks, it seems. ยต
Who needs a freaking chipset?
AMD's don't need one...why should they?

When do you morons learn that AMD's use a HT-hub...but that can be anything...
From an I/O chip to a videocard...

AMD's do NOT have chipsets.

Why is halve the world calling these chips by the wrong name and MORE important....
Wy are they talking about CPU support? This is utterly rubbish.

Those HT-hubs can simply be connected to the Oldest Opteron 240 to the latest Quad-core multi-CPU-board...
Or an AM2+, it has nothing to do with chips...as the HT-bus of the CPU!!! will adjust to whatever HT-hub is being connected.

People have really no clue these days...so sad...
It's a foregone conclusion that AMD's marketing just plain sucks, so I have to wonder why you (or anyone else, for that matter) would bother with showing whatever logos they come up with. It's among the most non-news news items I've ever seen here.
lol, buddy, I think you're getting "chipset" confused with "front side bus" or something... Cause, I can guarantee AMD still uses chipsets, lol.
You should really try to know what your talking about before you bash the Inquirer's articles. The northbridgebridge chip is one of the most important chips on the board for AMD.
It controls whether the PCIe lanes are communicating to the CPU at 8x or 16x.
Although the CPU has the memory controller, the chipset decides the MAX speed of memory supported.
Chipset type also determines whether the system can use Crossfire or SLI.
For retail Budget systems, the chipset is also the graphics card. which helps AMD stay competitive with intel for average buyers.
Funny you should mention Hyper-Transport buses(HT) because the northbridge chip type decides the max bandwidth of the HT bus for the motherboard, even though an AMD CPU is capable of 2000mhz. a cheaper chipset may only allow the CPU to run it's HT bus at say 1600mhz.
before you start telling people they have no clue, you should probably get one yourself first.
Listen dude,

You might want to read here:

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/DevelopWithAMD/0,,30_2252_2353,00.html

It's all explained in there.
It's not a chipset, it's an HT-hub with I/O capabilities, but the connected device can be anything.
It does NOT need a "chipset", as it can use any HT-hub regardless of it's function.
And the CPU type being used is irrelevant as well.

You really have no clue how far ahead AMD's CPU design is...even more sad.
It squawks like a duck... shutup! it's a duck ok? The Northbridge is a main controller and interconnect for CPU, memory, PCIe and the Southbridge. AMD stucture has the memory residing on the CPU's branch of the tree controlled by the CPU. The Southbridge in this case which is a multilane highway with multiple entrances and exits for PCI, IDE, SATA, USB and pure input devices. In a nutshell. HT or hyper transport is an optimized method of getting data from A to B, such as your clicks and keystrokes to the CPU to interact with your OS and whatever crap you read, edit or play with...
Reading is not supposed to be like collecting snowballs for a fight. It's for gaining insight into what you weren't aware of before and some people just read the headlines so they have more time to flame others. Shutup and you might lean something...
