A US police department has lost details on more than 6,000 crimes after a computer crash.

According to Associated Press, a week's worth of crime records have gone missing from the St Louis police department.

Redfaced administrators are this morning expected to tell St Louis' boys and girls in blue that they are going to have to retype all the details they had put online.

The computer system crashed only a few weeks after a network administrator was fired. It appears that the bloke, whose girlfriend had reportedly been arrested on drug charges, had been looking at files he shouldn't have been.
