Apple in talks with Cisco over iPhone

Can we have the name please?
Wed Jan 10 2007, 02:34
ALTHOUGH Apple has officially launched its pretty iPhone much work is going on behind the scenes to make sure that it can actually call it that.

As we mentioned before, Apple has no rights to use that name as it was trademarked to Cisco's Linksys division aeons ago.

Apple is keeping dead quiet about this problem as it is a bit embarrassing to launch a product and then discover that you will have to change the name if the real owner gets shirty. According to MarketWatch, Cisco is not letting this one slide either. Its people have been having words with Apple's people for some months on the matter.

A spokesCisco said that Apple appears to be set to sign an agreement which will enable it to use the Cisco name. He didn't mention if large sums of money were changing hands but we suspect this will be the case.
