1,000 Intel jobs to go at Rio Rancho fab

End of an eight inch era
Wednesday, 2 May 2007, 16:23
INTEL SAID it is closing its eight inch wafer line at Rio Rancho in New Mexico and 1,000 jobs will go because of the decision.

The chip giant told the Dow Jones Newswire that it will stop making eight inch wafers at the end of August. Employees will either be made redundant or offered other jobs.

Intel starting making 12-inch wafers at the fab in 2002, and that line will continue.

This particular fab is where Mad Mike Mageek had a most experience when Intel dressed him in a bunny suit and gave him an inside tour of the facilities.

He wrote about that when he was at Another Plaice. ยต
