Olympics race onto Youtube

Google buys streaming rights

VIDEO-SHARING GIANT Youtube will have the right to stream three hours of recorded Olympic content per day to countries without an official media partner.

The deal, which was struck with the International Olympic Committee, will broaden the audience of events while respecting those who have paid millions for the right to broadcast.

Countries such as the UK and US will be blocked from the Youtube content as they will receive footage via BBC and NBC.

Around 77 territories will have access to the three hours a day footage which will include highlight reels and wrap-ups, but not live events.

Timo Lumme, director of television and marketing services at the International Olympic Committee said "for the first time in Olympic history we will have complete global online coverage". µ

Why the heck are the BBC allowed to block content, they work for us?

And why are the BBC also blocking Eurosport from showing MotoGP (motorcycle racing) next year when the Eruosport coverage is much better?&#xD;

Eurosport - shows Friday practice live, Saturday practice and qualifying live, and Sunday race live. BBC only shows Sunday race "mostly live, but not always".&#xD;
&#xD;
The BBC shouldn't be allowed to block anything, they are paid for by the public to provide a public service without adverts. So why are they allowed to block and provide a half assed service?&#xD;
&#xD;
Olympics - is it worth 1bil a day? That's what it will cost when it comes to London next time. £1bil/day, $2bil/day, is it worth it to watch a bunch of part time workers on drugs run fast for 10 seconds?
