Sony has big telly launch

Hopes for explosive success

DEMOLITIONS EXPERT Sony has decided to release nine new LCD TV models in Japan over the next few months.

Among the range will be a 52-inch high-definition set, which Sony hopes will pull its nadgers out of the fire as punters shop for Christmas. The big telly will hit the shops at $6,850.

Exploding batteries and delays to Blu-Ray aside, Sony's telly business has been doing particularly badly - it has been recording a loss for a while now.

Sony Executive Deputy President Katsumi Ihara told a news conference that the new range will help turn its TV business profitable in the second half of this business year.
