INTEL FACES charges of antitrust action in Europe, a report in the Wall Street Journal said.

Citing sources close to the investigation, the Journal said an inquiry has produced a dossier of charges against the chip giant in preparation for a report to be sent to antitrust commissionaire Neelie Kroes.

The next step after that would be for Kroes to issue a notice to Intel to which it would have to respond.

The EU investigation started several years ago, prompted by complaints from AMD and Taiwanese X86 manufacturer Via. While Via subsequently decided to abandon its complaints, AMD has continued to press for an inquiry. ยต
