Speculation mounts on Transmeta Microsoft deal

Hoots mon, gimme some Efficion chips!
Sun Aug 14 2005, 15:34
WHAT THE HECK could 30 Transmeta engineers be seconded to Microsoft for?

As we noted last week, Sony has 120 or so TMTA engineers working on its Playstation 3, but that's public knowledge.

See 30 Transmeta engineers working on Microsoft project.

Perhaps, whispers the rumour mill, Microsoft wants to use TMTA's TSX enabled hardware encryption in Janus, directed toward Microsoft's trusted computing compliance.

FIC already has shown its two faces with Janus, as a swift Google boogaloo shows.

The more outre idea is that Microsoft is going to go really nuts in May and release 2GHz Longrun 2 compliant Efficion chips, all part of Microsoft's MCE 2006 marchitecture machine.

Don't forget Microsoft has now established rather strong links with the foundries, despite being a "software company". Hoots mon! µ
