Microsoft knew Vista was unready – report

We helped Intel make its figures. Sheesh
Thursday, 28 February 2008, 10:21

SENIOR EXECUTIVES at the Vole were aware of hardware problems and software problems with Microsoft Vista, the Seattle Post Intelligencer reported.

A lawsuit filed against Microsoft has uncovered emails from the head of Windows engineering, with warnings about unreadiness endorsed by CEO Steve Ballmer.

According to the mails, even Volish employees couldn't get Vista to work with MSN. The emails are revealed as part of a class action lawsuit over the " Windows Vista Capable" scheme used to keep Windows XP sales buoyant.

Microsoft suit John Kalkman blamed Intel to help "it make its quarterly earnings" by encouraging use of 915 chipsets which have integrated graphics.

Another suit said he bought a Sony notebook only to find it couldn't run " Glass". He said he'd paid over $2,000 for what was essentially an email device.

More here, as Nick Farrell says. µ

VIsta & MSN??

Strange, I've been using Vista since about a year before RTM, and never had an issue with MSN.....

Too many ads already

why did I have to be subjected to an advert to view this article? I object. Too much of that and I won't be reading the Inq any more. Pathetic.

MIcrosoft = Broken

Do you see a pattern?

Vista was released broken.
Xbox 360 was released broken.
OOXML was released broken.

Microsoft = Broken

I have an OS

And it only runs on potato-based PCs. I hope that people defend my product by blaming the current hardware for not being ready for my P-OS. If only intel would start turning out potato chips... I didn't intend for the puns... they just started happening.

Misleading headline

Don't you mean: MS knew hardware wasn't ready. But, no, it get's more readers the way Mr. Magoo phrased it!

Vista Capable?

I bought a Vista desktop that has absolutely no driver support for XP so that wasn't even an option for me. Once I removed all the HP crap ware that came on it, it's been running fine for months, but then, my integrated graphics are nVidia 6100SE w/NV430 chip set. Laptops have more of a problem with Vista because the integrated graphics chip sets that come with many of them aren't really up to the task of running Aero. Most of the $500-$600 Laptops being sold with Vista actually run slower than my XP laptop that is four years old. Won't be switching to a Vista Laptop anytime soon.

Broken?

Aaron, you can't break something that was never good to begin with :-)

Dos = full of buggs
Windows = full of buggs
Bill Gates predictions = all wrong

Rememeber 640kB ought to be enough for everybody?
Or Internet will never take off, the Microsoft Network is the future....

For people that don't know, MSN stands for MicroSoft Network, or what's left of it, reduced to a chat protocol HAHAHAHAHA

microsoft rulz

microsoft's products are no more full of bugs than the competition's, it's just that they're widely mediatised, by people like the microsoft-friendly inquirer team. as for the 640k ought to be enough quote, bill gates has denied many times that he was the one responsible for it. i've run vista for more than half a year now and i can say that, although it has its defects, overall it's a good operating system (not as good as xp was, though). and i do run other operating systems, like various distributions of linux and the overly-hailed-yet-not-so-cool mac os leopard

Properly Glass will run fine on 915

CPU take over GPU, it is may still lag, but it do have Aero experience

For people that wanted to have desktop "legal" , Vista is a good choice, an option to extend to 120 days, still not bad

I am "shocked"

Geez, I think a monkey could of told you Vista was unready!

But we knew this allready!

Yeah, only reason I use M$ is because they are so entrenched, and to strike away would mean an un-needed extra level of complexity. The minute major businesses move away from M$, I will happily 0 fill every hard drive I own that has been tainted and never look back!

And for what it's worth, I REGISTER my objection to the additional advertisements. Come on guys, do you really need to ram more crap down our throats to break even, or are you just grabbing more money?

Vista - MS in the IT world

Microsoft is BS! They said that they have sold over 100 million copies of the Vista OS - http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/02/29/desperate-microsoft-cuts-vista . I want to say that is incorrect to say so. Think about this – most US manufactures and overseas companies, runs on Windows because who ever sells the system, has a contract with MS (as in if Dell or HP sells systems with MS, then the companies – Dell, HP will pay a low price on each license). Now, every year the companies have to buy new licenses for all the PCs used in the company. So how can they said that they sold over 100 million copies - I will say that the companies did not have a choice since the support of XP was announced last year that it will end early this year (2008), then MS extended the length of support because of IT users that started to complain about Vista. I am a small business owner of an IT company and I was so happy when I found out that for Small and Big businesses you can buy systems with XP in stead of Vista (sure there was a $50 – $90 extra per system). Now boys and girls let’s face it, how much do you care about your Aero when after 3, 5, 7 hours of work on a project, your vista freezes/crushes your system and you lose your precious work. Let’s face it, if you will have gun at that moment you will kill the firs MS Eng on spot with no concise. I bought several systems including portables, and I had to install XP to make them stable. If you miss that funky side bar, you can always download and install the free goggle desktop (goggle steals as much info from your PCs, as Microsoft does). Sure boys and girls, the world is turning a way from the big monopoly that MS has because it’s not stable. This week I read in an article that the Police in Germany are converting everything to Linux since they had a little over 50 hours down time in 2007. They said that people got stop for a traffic violation and that the officers were holding the people for over an hour (sure they do that here in US as well) and that’s precious time that can be spend fighting the crime and not waiting on a computer. I see that more and more EU countries are going to Linux (school districts and government agencies) as well as in US. I read that a Californian county last year switched their telephony system to Linux and saved over $175.000.00 (from same source – Linux Magazine). I personally when I started working with PSs the first time was in 1995 and sure I got my hands wet on Windows 95. It was about 2 years ago when I started working with Unix/Linux on server and mainframe systems due to my contract with other companies. I was amaze to see OS so stables and malleable. I have a screen shot of system that was up for 8+ years. So why stay with something that is unstable offering me something that I really don’t need? Also there are so many other flavors of Linux out there that offers an outstanding transparency and effects with windows and programs that makes Vista cry like a little baby. Anyhow, as we all know all empires died, so is MS – sooner or later. By the way – have you seen that MS was using unauthorized code in their SQL server version 2008? - http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/02/21/microsoft-sued-snaffling-sql
