Project Offset gets a trailer

More than just vapourware

WE'VE BEEN WAITING for concrete details about Project Offset for so long that we were starting to think it had gone the way of Duke Nukem - that is, to the land of the Phantom.

But the first trailer for the game has finally been made publicly available, and it looks pretty darned swanky.

And by publicly available, we mean, allegedly leaked. The trailer looks like, well, a trailer. But the Offset team issued a release to say that it was a video made for internal purposes that was leaked. Was it a leak or a 'leak'? Inquiring minds need to know.

What we do know for certain is that the development team behind Offset promised gamers an insanely detailed next-next-generation graphics engine that would blow everything else out of the water. Given that this is the team's first project, many thought that this was perhaps slightly over ambitious.

But it does appear that the team is beginning to deliver something, although whether we're in for another Stalker scenario is still debatable.

You can see the trailer for the game, which is a fantasy hack'n'slash, here. It promises class-based gameplay [Eh? Workers versus bosses? Ed.], squad-centric multiplayer, rideable creatures and a 'hybrid' combat system, whatever that means.

The game looks like a slightly shootier version of Assassin's Creed right now, which is perhaps no bad thing. Still no word on a release date yet, and don't expect one for a while, either. µ

Do you think the move was justified?
