The Itanium is an architecture that will be around for the next 20 years
APPLE JUST ADMITTED that it has a raft of defective NV cards. I guess Nvidia was being honest when they said it was only affecting a few late-run HP products.
Oh, did they say that? They meant Dell too. And now Apple. Tosh will announce soon as well, but pretend you don't know that until Nvidia doesn't announce it either... they get pissy when we point out their massive failures.
It looks like the joke about honesty being a sackable offense at Nvidia is true. µ

"At that same time, NVIDIA assured Apple that Mac computers with these graphics processors were not affected. However, after an Apple-led investigation, Apple has determined that some MacBook Pro computers with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor may be affected."

Did Ipple just call NVDSHT liars?
So where do we sign up for the class action lawsuit at?
Everything Charlie has said has come true. The NV fanboys keep getting owned more and more each day.

Why is it that its only the NV fanboys that act so defiant? At least the ATI fanboys are humble but I what goes around comes around I guess.

Oh, btw, I'm an ATI fanboy and BAHAHAHA to the NV fanboys.
Bravo ! it is good that Apple ack'd the problems unlike HP, Dell and others.
Just so we're all clear on this and just so the fanboys who's posts follow mine get this clear in their heads:

"Symptoms

In July 2008, NVIDIA publicly acknowledged a higher than normal failure rate for some of their graphics processors due to a packaging defect. At that same time, NVIDIA assured Apple that Mac computers with these graphics processors were not affected. However, after an Apple-led investigation, Apple has determined that some MacBook Pro computers with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor may be affected. If the NVIDIA graphics processor in your MacBook Pro has failed, or fails within two years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty.

What to look for:

* Distorted or scrambled video on the computer screen

* No video on the computer screen (or external display) even though the computer is on

Specific products affected:

* MacBook Pro 15-inch and 17-inch models with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processors

MacBook Pro (17-Inch, 2.4GHz)
MacBook Pro (15-Inch, 2.4/2.2GHz)
MacBook Pro (Early 2008)

* These computers were manufactured between approximately May 2007 and September 2008"

So defective that nVidia has been chosen for substitute Intel. Just wait the 14th.
OpenCL does it say anything to you? No I guess.

So...
1) When is Google gonna buy Valve, then? Tell us again
Atleast Apple isn't being an ass**** about this, and offered the 2 year warranty thingy.
this just in mclaren are insolvent, due to skimping on a 1 c material, they have now called back every major chip/ chipset/gpu they have made, and now ther eis no more money.
Stewart has bought the entire company/ revenue/ and cashflow for 25 dollars Austalian. he plans to revolutionize the graphics industry buy making fast chips, small soloutions, and reasonable prices, and no fixing with ATI.

what do you think do I get the job as the new CEO? I have pretty much worked out what people want, and what the co needs to change. please NVidia I need the work, and you need a guy with morals.
according to apple "If the NVIDIA graphics processor in your MacBook Pro has failed, or fails within two years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty."
I gotta hand it to apple for doing such a nobble thing. Then again, Its not really an apple problem so theres no need to cover it up.
Jeez...This is why they took a 196mil charge. You have to wait for things to fail before you know they're bad...LOL.

They came out and admitted they had bad chips and took a charge. You pretty much have to wait for things to fail before recognizing they exist. You don't just assume all your products are bad because one fails. That's completely stupid. Nobody calls all their products bad the second someone calls in and says they have a bad part.

Whine whine whine...

Pathetic.
Yes NV should come clean but we are all seeing an issue with JUNK comming out of China. The quality issue is far more widespread than most of you realize.
I actually read the page you linked to. Let me get this straight, you're complaining about the fact that apple is going to fix it FOR FREE, even if your warranty is EXPIRED??

More stuff covered by Nvidia's generous 196mil charge and statement they'd cover all the failures eh?

Shut up already. If everyone is covered who cares...I also see they ONLY talk about SOME 8600's and only in notebooks.

GET OVER IT.
I have to admit to being a little dubious about Charlie's comments on nvidia's product line at first but now Apple have admitted to a problem I have to tip my hat.

Of course, it *could* all be a horrible coincidence that the big OEMs all seem to have separately got their hands on "small batches" of faulty chips, but in the words of Harry Hill, "what are the chances of that happening?"

It's good to see some genuine investigative work taking place.

More lies from nVidia
Tom's Hardware has an excellent non biased article on this, http://www.tomshardware.com/news/apple-nvidia-gpu-defective-macbook,6477.html
Apple is treating their customers well too, Quote from Tom's, "However, after an Apple-led investigation, Apple has determined that some MacBook Pro computers with the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor may be affected. If the Nvidia graphics processor in your MacBook Pro has failed, or fails within two years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty."
