Overclocked Athlon FX and P4 systems slip into retail

Nventiv pushes FX51 to 2.7GHz, Pentium4 to 4GHz

DANISH COMPANY, Nventiv, is offering what it claims is the fastest available AMD Athlon 64 FX-51 based system. The SYS ColdFusion FX is clocked to 2.7GHz, up from its original clock of 2.2GHz.

The company which used to operate under the name Chip Con, announced that their quite expensive but effective systems are available at www.sys.com.

Nventiv also makes ColdFusion-labelled Intel Pentium 4-based systems which manage to cool a P4 enough to run it at a 4GHz clock speed, as we saw at Cebit almost a year ago. This is among the first systems shipped at such speeds.

An Athlon that runs 500MHz faster than its regular clock speed or a P4 that runs 800MHz faster then its air-cooled speed won't come cheap. The Athlon FX system with decent graphics, a DVD recorder, 1GB of memory and 120GB hard drive costs almost $4000. Oddly enough, we couldn't find a price for the P4 system.

This marks an important victory for Nventiv in its battle against Asetek, a company well known for its Vapochill systems. Both companies are from Denmark, a country that knows a bit about the cold. µ
