Orange has green tent for Glasto

Wind powered handset recharging

ORANGE IS PROVING its Green credentials by installing a special tent fitted with wind-powered generators that can recharge an estimated 100 mobile phones simultaneously at Glasto.

Recharge-pod

Known as the Orange Recharge Pod, it's basically a tent fitted with a wind generator plus solar panels, developed in conjunction with renewable energy experts, Gotwind.

It's a natural evolution of the Orange Mobile Wind Charger which the company claims was the UK’s first wind-powered phone charger designed to attach to the top of a tent.

It's also a logical follow-up to the Text me Home Dome which the INQ actually field tested at the Womad festival.

The Dome was a brilliant idea and the INQ received inquiries from around the world from potential purchasers but it never went into commercial production as far as we know.

Orange has a long history of helping out Glastonbury revellers and it will continue to run its Chill 'n' Charge tent which last year saw 65,000 phones being recharged.

If the wind-powered pod proves to work well, then the technology will be added into the Chill 'n' Charge facility. Making Orange greener still.

Glasto goers should make a mental note that the Recharge Pod will be stationed near the Pennard Hill camping grounds and that the service is free.
