Sony recalls two shocking Vaio notebooks

18,000 go back
Thu Jul 10 2003, 17:10
OVER 18,000 Vaio notebooks in the FR/FRV range are to be recalled by Sony because users stand the risk of tiny electrical shocks.

The notebooks, released in May, have shipped to Europe, to Japan, and to America - but the vast majority of the problem notebooks are in Japan, with 13,000 being recalled.

The cost to Sony will result in a figure of just over four million US dollars, a tiny fraction of its total notebook revenues.

The problem occurs sometimes when the notebooks are attached to the main supply, you are grounded, you touch metallic elements of the PC, and the phone rings.

And it's a very minor electric shock, apparently, if you fulfil all these conditions. ยต
