Sun shines again on Opteron front

Great Scott!
Wednesday, 3 September 2003, 11:54
MAGEEK AND THAT Charlie D guy were hunting round at the intro of Jerry's Opterons in spring for any sign that Sun had signed up for the platform.

Of Sun there was no Sun sign, although Carly F made an appearance at the AMD W Ball.

We heard yesterday afternoon that all is not lost for AMD in the vales of McNealyvale, no, far from it, far from it.

Sun is committed to X86 Solaris and you know poring over IDC's figures last week, it's pretty clear that there's a clear gap in McNealy's toothypegs lineup in some areas of its server offerings.

Jillie, now liberated from TMTA's clutches, reckons from an old flame the rumor is that Sun could even be the first to market with a dual Opteron server! Tweaking Big Blue's nose and putting Carly's tete-a-tete with Jerry S into the shade.

Plus, y'know, Solaris is the only true OS untainted by any hint of SCO on the Linux front. Sheesh! Shine on, Scott. µ
