POPULAR CANADIAN Bittorrent tracker site, Demonoid appears to have been shut down by the Canadian Recording Industry Association.
Both the tracker and the website have been unresponsive for nearly 24 hours. Here at the INQ that just means that we have had a server upgrade, but in Torrent land it is seen as being a sign of doom.
It seems that Demonoid’s Canadian ISP pulled the plug after being pressured by the CRIA. The ISP has told world plus dog that it will shut down the site if it receives any complaints.
According to TorrentFreak the server is still pinging but the ISP might have everything firewalled.
So far there has been no word from Deimos, the founder and the head admin of the site.
Demonoid has been walloped by the anti-piracy crowd before. It shifted its servers from the Netherlands to Canada in June after its ISP was served with legal threats.
In that case the anti-piracy crowd BREIN had asked the ISP to take Demonoid offline and hand over the administrator’s personal details.
It is fairly likely that we have not seen the last of Demonoid. We hear Russia is very pretty at this time of year. µ
Unfortunately nothing has been confirmed and there is no reason to assume the CRIA did anything. The last time the CRIA (which, by the way, is not the canadian RIAA but rather a group that represents the RIAA in canada) tried anything they got shut down in court.

Keep an eye out for updates.
I am glad to hear it may only be server stuff...upgrades or whatever....I hope anyway. Demonoid is the best!! and I will be keeping an eye out for them to be up and runnign again....
Both then and now GeoIP says Demonoid is hosted in the USA. Right now nothing loads at demonoid.com except the favicon either.
See ya all soon! REMEMBER ONE THING I AND MILLIONS WILL FIND U AND FOLLOW XX UNITED KINGDOM
2 days before demonoid went down, I recieved an email asking were my "torrent list" had gone...I replied saying "it is still there" and sent a link...What an idiot I am, I checked that email on the 26th and a little icon came up saying "FBI"...

I do not know if demonoid going down is linked to this but it does seem likely...
Shortly after midnight, Eastern Time Zone, I noticed that some of my torrents that had gradually stopped over the past few days were operational again. The tracker portion of Demonoid is back online. The torrent listing site may not be back yet as I can't get a response, even the 'Demonoid Server too busy' page, but I suspect it won't be long now.
demonoid is hosted in canada not usa as stated above and no, the CRIA have nothing to do with it, it is just purely hardware issues

As of saturday 29th - all trackers are up and working with estimated website backon line 29-30/9
This message now appears on the Demonoid home page if you are in Canada:

"We received a letter from a lawyer represeting (sic) the CRIA, they were threatening with legal action and We need to start blocking Canadian traffic because of this. If you reside in Canada, that is the reason you are being redirected to this message. Thanks for your understanding, and sorry for any inconvenience."
I too have been having problems connecting for the last couple of days. However I did manage to get onto the site briefly yesterday.

I have no idea why Demonoid never bought their own servers. To say that the company providing the servers pulled the plug cause of a threat is bogus and lame. Demonoid just has to admit that their administration have no balls to stand up to the CRIA. The CRIA are shooting off blanks. Previous court cases in Canada have said downloading from the internet is not illegal.

Unlike the US, much of what is found online for free is considered to be public domain. If it's out there, its considered like finding a dime on the sidewalk. Finders Keepers.

It is hard to find a site worthy now to call home. The shame in all this, is the loss of TV shows. Demonoid was the best for getting tv series torrents. I guess we just have to move onward to the next torrent site and carry on from their.
When Demonoid first went down i did a Fast Google search for a Possible explanation, I found a News Article dated the 4th of September of this year (Sorry, I don't have the Link Immediately to hand)stating they were experiencing fairly major hardware issues and at some time in the near future they would be taking the site down for a time to swap out hardware.
I'm assuming, being based now in the Ukraine they May be having some troubles getting the parts they need, so i'm not giving up hope over Demonoid Yet.
