FLIMSY BUT influential magazine Business Week has put Sun Microsystems' CEO Scott McNealy on the front cover of its next issue but the photograph gives the hacks there a chance to put the knife in.

The magazine said that Sun Microsystems has lost a third of its market share, its share price has slumped, sales have fallen by nearly 50% over the last three year and Business Week appears to blame Scott McNealy.

Scott-mcnealyIt says that his greatest strengths - determination, irreverence and idealism - are "critical flaws". It also claims that McNealy refused to take advice from nearly everyone in his management team and "one by one, his team lost faith and departed".

But McNealy and other people still there think that everyone's far too worried about Sun's future. It quotes him as saying Sun has a maverick strategy and that's a good opportunity for the firm. He tells the hacks: "I don't do feelings. I'll leave that to Barry Manilow". ยต
