VODAFONEVodafone may have saved its most ambitious news for last this year through a massive raid on the Indian mobile market via through a bid for Hutchison Essar.

The British carrier has been in the wars in 2006 thanks to boardroom wrestling and financial missteps but it has never made a secret of its international expansion plans. Today it confirmed its interest in Hutchison Essar but cautioned hat the move is still in its early stages.

The Times suggests the deal is worth about £6.9bn. µ
