HP IS LAUNCHING three new models of multiformat DVD writers this month, the dvd1040i, the external dvd1040e and the HPdvd1035i.

HP promises that the new models will offer high speeds and double-layer recording, and feature LightScribe 1.2 which provides for high-contrast labeling, claims HP. The dvd1040i and e models can stick your stuff onto DVDs at up to 8x on a double-layer, recordable DVDs up to 20x, rewritables up to 8x and DVD-RAM up to 12x.

As would be downright expected, the drives ship with all the normal software which will let you make slideshows and other things that people with DVD burners never do anyway.

The drives are more fruit from the relationship HP struck up with drive maker Lite-On which builds the gadgetry in the Far East.

All three models will be available in Europa this month, €49 for the 1040i, €75 for the 1040e and €45 for the 1035i. µ
