Sony pulls proprietary audio format

MAKER exploding batteries and evil DRM, Sony has admitted that its attempts to foist its proprietary music standard on punters have failed dismally.

According to the Financial Times, Sony said it will close its Connect digital music store and make its new breed of digital media players open to more formats.

The new Walkmans, on show at the International Funkausstellung, in Berlin, can play a variety of formats, including Windows Media Audio, along with MP3 and advanced audio coding, or AAC.

The new Walkman video players run Vole's Windows Media Player 10.
