Wii branded dangerous

ER man's warning
Mon Jan 07 2008, 09:00

NINTENDO'S Wii is downright dangerous, a quack warned his local telly station.

Dr Bret Bruder, who is an emergency department doctor, told Cincinnati television station WLWT that playing with the Wii was causing all sorts of medical complaints ranging from muscle soreness to a lack of friends (we made the last one up).

He said that punters do not expect to get sporting injuries when they are playing a video game and end up more battered than a Scottish Mars bar.

He complained that young children through middle-age people are Wiiing themselves stupid and coming into the hospital with their arms, shoulders and joints aching.

He said that if people are going to play with their Wii they should not do so for hours on end. They should think about doing a bit of stretching first.

Perfectly normal, move along now

It's obvious that an American will complain about muscle soreness after having moved his arms for half an hour straight.
Those couch-potatoes generally need a whole day to move for the equivalent of half an hour.
It's the shock ! Ooohh ! Excercise ! Never did THAT before ! It has to be bad !

Aches & Pains

What do ya think? When I was growing up they called these aches and pains "soreness from exercise". What a sad state of affairs it is when a little movement, off of the couch, causes an unknown pain. I guess that's why American youth is so fat compared to 20 years ago.
Sheesh!

How sad

Considering it's Cincinnati, what they're probably feeling is "soreness." You know, the kind of thing you feel when you actually do exercise? God forbid anyone suffer THAT.

Wrist Injuries

Don't forget the wrist injuries.

You have to be a bit of a wanker to be fooled into buying a Wii.

ONLY IN AMERICA

there will an american only Wii firmware upgrade.

To get to the Wii menu, you will have to do a series of exercises with the wiimote, in order to gain access to the machine.

This is to prevent you hurting yourself, as you clearly are too thick to decide for yourself when enough is enough, and that pulling a muscle for once in your life, could be life threatening.

Well well

My arms ache after a bit of bunny dancing. Just like all unaccustomed exercise, it works different muscle groups. There is an adage that sudden pain during exercise is bad (probably a pulled muscle), general ache after is good - for just that reason.

Scare-mongering like this by the yanks will do nothing to counter the conventional view of these people as ... let's say ... exercise-shy.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
