According to the statement, Toshiba is aware that "certain product documentation" relating to the type of Intel chip inside the notebooks was incorrect.
The documentation, said Toshiba, should have described the processor as a Celeron desktop chip.
Toshiba is at pains to say that the problem relates to the written description of the chip, rather than the quality, safety or operation of the Satellite A45-S121.
The firm said that owners will receive refunds from Toshiba six to eight weeks after it receives the claim form. People that want to return the whole machine, rather than just claim the difference, are being instructed to return the machine using UPS stores.
Owners affected by the problem need to first fill in a product registration form. After they've done that, Toshiba US will mail owners a refund claim form detailing what it needs.
Owners have until the 1st of September this year to complete the registration and return the refund claim form. ยต
