Download torrents when your PC is off

Hardware Roundup Asus spearheads PC-less devices
Tuesday, 22 August 2006, 15:03
DOWNLOAD torrents with PC turned off. That's one of the, or rather the main selling point of the Asus WL-700gE Router. BT by itself is not illegal.. But... Anyway, this one is a multi function device that allows you to have a FTP server, a NAS, a multi Media device, a printer sharer and more. All wirelessly of course. You have to wonder what a computer is meant for after playing with one of those. It even comes with a 160GB HD. It is expensive and requires a PC for interaction. But I guess some guy at Asus is going to glue a 14-inch monitor at the back and bundle in a Wireless keyboard. Who needs a PC?

Tomshardware is PG191 LCD monitor with a Super Bass System and a 2ms response time. Yes, we're talking about a gamer's oriented monitor with integrated bass, a 1.3MP webcam and a USB hub. The LCD monitor actually has a 2.1 channel speaker system with SRS TruSurround XT audio technology. Mind you though that image is not that great and so is the price, nearly £280. For that price, you can get two widescreen 19-inch. Won't be a good deal until Asus cuts the price drastically.

Lost circuits tests the Intel Core2 Duo vs the AMD x2 3800+ and 4600+. Loads of benchmarks and one things seems to be sure. The AMD ADD series sets new standards when it comes to power consumption. Prices are falling down, performance are going up. The x2 3800+ has the upper hand when compared to the E6300. The x2 4600+ is conspicuously absent from the conclusion. The Core family scales well with speed increases while some will argue that the same cannot be said for the x2 family.

Paying games for one week... That's life, isn't it. Xbitlabs actually went through the process but as their job task. They tested seven of the most resource hogging games out there and churned out a 23-page article. They stretched two dozen cards until they fell like flies and died. Anyway, the obvious conclusion is that you shouldn't play GPU/CPU intensive games with cheap cards or you will be killed quickly. Except that quite a few gamers actually play at rather low resolutions, instead of 12x10 with Anisotropic set on.

Overclockersclub reports on the Gigabyte 7600GT graphics card. It is a dual slot, Dual heat pipe cooling solution. You get two DVI ports plus a TV out as well. The card is SLI capable but the dual slot solution might be a big problem. Noiseless cooling and a little bit of overclocking. If you have the budget, you might as well go for it. The card turns out to be slightly more powerful than a plain vanilla 6800 card.

If you want to send in reviews, hardware or software, don't hesitate, just bring them in. I am particularly fond of exotic hardware that you won't find elsewhere. Even if the review is not in English, as long as it is interesting and entertaining. Send it in. Also I would be glad if someone could point me to a recent directory of hardware websites. µ
