Star Trek mask hits the shops soon

Brings the telly closer
Tuesday, 20 February 2007, 08:18
A VIRTUAL REALITY face mask, similar to the one that Geordi LaForge wore in Star Trek, is to hit the shops soon, you won't be astonished to read.

Icuiti's VR920, which won the 2007 CES "innovations award", creates a feeling of watching a 62-inch screen from nine feet away. The picture displays in 640x480 and it comes with a built in microphone and head tracker.

The technology is a "virtual reality" version of similar headsets that it has designed for watching videos, such as the Icuiti: AV230 which came out in November. The AV230 could only manage looking like a 44" home theatre.

The VR920 certainly is a step up from the nightmare VR specs I tried at a show once, but then again that is not difficult. There is a picture here. ยต
