WE HAD AN interesting meeting with some ECS reps yesterday.

The well-known manufacturer of yesteryear's MacBooks is showcasing its regular consumer and channel products at Computex, but also showing some new, rather interesting concepts.

Mirror concept showed some real potential for a HTPC machine even though the DTX was mentioned as the ideal form factor

And this is why this case shows promise... I want these connectors for my HDoverIP box

The company competed in Intel's Core Challenge and showed off very interesting products, such as its home-entertainment centre with a tabletop DVD/HD/BD drive. ECS has plans to bring most of its prototypes onto the market, with one subtle change: AMD's own DTX form factor has shown to be more flexible in the process of design, so many of the designs here will be brought to life with AMD's processors, rather than Intel's LXIV DRM-platform in mini-ITX form.

Concept of HTPC with two cases and Sideshow removable player piqued our interest

Lastly, we'll leave you with a picture of a working concept which uses the DTX form factor as well as having room for a riser card to plonk a fancy graphics card in.

The DTX prototype was shown as well, but current the case design is only a mockup.

This is how the case looks inside showing a fair bit of potential for upgrading. Could Telcos see this one as its next IPTV DVR box?
