Zotac’s Nitro control system

Daily Wibble GPU Overclocking via USB
Friday, 29 August 2008, 08:47

WE STILL HAVEN’T READ a bad editorial published about the Leipzig Games Convention, and when we read articles like this one, we really have to stop and say “GC is the shiznit”.

German site Technic3D was there and Zotac gave editors a look at the Zotac Nitro – a USB remote control that manages GPU overclocking. Although it was a prototype, it worked fine with their graphics card. The final version will feature set-up profiles, so you can switch around settings on the fly. Definitely worth reading (Googlenglish).

One thing has to be said for the folks at Asus, they’ve always been bold when challenging the establishment, and their G70 series laptops are a good testament to that… if they were specced 18 months ago. Joe at Bit Tech takes a bite out of a G70, and comes out with an odd taste in his mouth. The laptop is a mix of last season’s high-end and some pretty serious current stuff from Intel. You’ll be surprised, both ways. Get it here.

Belkin, best known for cables and networking gear, has its N1 Vision Wireless N Router on review at Benchmark Reviews. This type of router isn’t exactly the latest thing on the market, but the 802.11n technology is still in its infancy and some simple gimmicks can add a lot of value to the final retail product. In this case – apart from the 802.11n advantage – you get an interactive LCD screen on the router that lets you know lots of useful info about your network. Oh, it’s got gigabit ports too. Good one.

You’ve all heard of the Scythe Ninja and its achievements. These are to be continued, it seems, as Xbit Labs submits the Ninja “2” to some serious testing. The new Ninja presents some serious changes to the whole, and also supports passive mode where you can just get it to be quiet… speaking of which Sergey wasn’t at all happy with the noise the fan made. It held its own but the ThermalRight Ultra-120eX just wasn’t there to sit idly by, now was it? Read the review.

Overclock3D is testing DFI’s X48 UT-T3RS motherboard. It’s an enthusiast’s board, but it requires real understanding of the features to take full advantage of it… not for beginners. It also features a unique Bernstein audio module. The £200 price tag might be a bit over the top for most, but as Rich put it: “You will simply be blown away with the sheer power that is available at your finger tips”. Get it here.

Foxconn has a less-known line of mobos branded the “Digital Life” series. These are targeted at multimedia rather than enthusiast OC’ing and tweaking. The Foxconn Digital Life ELA is a P45-based board that Trusted Reviews is testing today. Epicly priced, as Leo puts it, the mobo has a clean layout, but Foxconn will have to come up with better arguments to justify dropping £200 on this manfangled mobo. Leo explains it better. µ
