Creatives could myth out on the big game opportunity

Sony make believe, we reckon
Tuesday, 19 August 2008, 17:16

YOUR INQUIRER correspondent has always wanted to write a game. My unique proposition is a Sunday league version of FIFA 2008, where virtual athletes would be replaced by more common physical specimens.

So games players would get to select a team from however many overweight hungover beer monsters they can drag out of bed on a Sunday morning.

For some reason, no major software developer has ever offered me a development meeting. But now I may have a chance, as Sony Computer Entertainment is desperately looking for software creatives to beef up its global competitiveness.

In October (reports Nikkei.net) Sony will embark on a talent search. (Ooh, ooh, over here, Mr Talent Spotter!) I’m not going to help any competitors, so my advice is this:

Don’t submit any software development plans to Sony. Yon won’t win a contract from the Sony Corp, despite what Nikkie.net reports.

The company will NOT provide winning contractors with office space and equipment, and pay their living costs during development. It’s a myth. Got that?

It gets worse. After work is completed, the contractors will receive NO royalties based on sales. Sony won’t help them to establish their own companies either. So just let that dream go, kid!

Major video game studios rely on in-house engineers. These degree holders are handpicked from vocational schools, science and engineering universities and art colleges – not the likes of you.

OK, so Nikkei says there is a shortage of up-and-coming young creators. But don’t get your hopes up.

OK, so Capcom is recruiting 100 engineers this year. That means nothing. And forget working for Nintendo too. Yes, they might be combing colleges in a hunt for developers for the DS. But they don’t want you.

Don’t get your hopes up.

Are you playing football this Sunday? It’s a 9:30 start. µ

I'm game!

and almost a sport!
But see here, BAFL is the way to go, mate. A player has to be well kitted to go up against a FIFA soccer mom, if the need should arise. But we shouldn't need any further punters. I've got a practiced command of the armchair quarterback position over center. I thought we should also like to contact Farrell, Booth. He might be holding to Aces in Loughsborough. There you go! We could call our team "The Candy Aces of Bass". So Sunday at 9:30. Ok. 'Seems a tad late for happy-hour, but just in time fours touchdown before the last-call. Oh I see how it's going to be. They'll be picking me up last, then. Where's me parlay pads and chips?
