Hexbox 360 starts viral marketing campaign

HEX168 is the name of Microsoft's latest viral marketing attempt for the Xbox 360.

Featuring a hexagon bordered by a four part circle, the Hex168 symbol certainly has some appeal and has started showing up everywhere from beaches to on buildings. 168 is hex for 360. One sighting even records it as a crop circle.

More of these crop circle styled designs are expected to appear until launch. Another sign of the same campaign has been to rent signage and post the phrase, "The Beginning is Nigh."

While the campaign may have us all aflutter and looking at photos, I have no bets on anyone "solving" this "puzzle" before the one day and ten hours left on the website's timer elapse.

For all its good looks, it feels more like a jaded advertising campaign from the same company whose Origen 360 idea failed so spectacularly to attract attention.

While it has better imagery, coverage, interest and everything else than Origen, the whole campaign smacks of the same thing. There is little enough mystery left about the Xbox 360 without wreathing the advertising in puzzle. µ
