2K Games suffers office fire

Game-maker up in smoke
Tue Jan 24 2006, 22:07
A BLAZE tore through 2K Games' offices in New York's SoHo on Saturday night.

A blog entry posted on January 22nd by Jason Bergman, a 2K Games spinner, described the event, but has since been removed in anticipation of an official statement. However, cached versions of the page shouldn't be too hard to locate for the determined or curious.

2K Games is part of the burgeoning Take-Two empire.

ABC says the fire started at 10pm and "quickly jumped to five alarms." Apparently, due to extensive renovations, the fire was difficult to control, and 400 people were evacuated from a restaurant on the lower level. There were no fatalities, but seven people were injured, six of these were fire-fighters.

Some executive offices suffered major damage, including a "veritable art gallery" which contains (contained?) works by Andy Warhol, Damian Hirst and Keith Haring. Despite crispy masterpieces, the official word is that game release dates and development in general will not be affected.

The cause of the fire is as yet unknown. µ
