MAKER of networking gear, Cisco said that it plans to release a whole lot of consumer gear next year.
The outfit is thinking of showing off its video set-top boxes and home-networking gear at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.
The products are a result of Cisco buying the home router maker Linksys and set-top box maker Scientific-Atlanta.
Ken Wirt, vice president of consumer marketing at Cisco, told PC Magazine the idea was to connect all the consumer gear that punters might have.
He said there were a lot of different things in your home that add up to a feature set. Cisco will take some of those things and putting them together in the box.
Cisco has not had much to do with the home networking side of things. It's products are popular with telcos and businesses.

OK, so Cisco is supposed to be good stuff. But why is the Linksys wireless print server such junk. I found comments back to 2005 having problems with it and I wasted a few hours trying to configure one, then returned it. Come on Cisco, live up to your name with the Linksys brand. I can't rely on any consumer brand networking anymore, I have to research every model before going to the store???
