Intel hunts for graphics driver expert

Must be ready to shock and awe
Fri Jul 27 2007, 11:08
INTEL HAS A job posting out today in a bid to recruit high-flying graphics software engineers.

Purportedly to fill a position in the 'Advanced Visual Computing' group, the job requires a "gaming expert to lead a team of people focused on filling out our software development kit for a revolutionary graphics product."

Hmm, we wonder what that could be?

The successful applicant will have overall responsibility for developing the driver, including oversight of functionality including Direct3D, OpenGL and content protection.

Recognising the slick presentation vehicles that Nvidia and DAAMIT have already built to show off their technology, Intel requires that the applicant be prepared to develop a number of "demonstration vehicles" including "shock-and-awe launch demos", presumably designed to have graphics rivals cowering in the corner and gaming fanboys drooling.

The additional requirements suggest that some experience putting "non-graphics... workloads on a GPU" would be beneficial, intimating that Intel has its eye on GPGPU as much as the next guy.

The wording of the job post, which you can see here, certainly makes it sound like Intel means business when it comes to Larrabee. Will the team, and its newly-appointed software head, deliver? We here at the INQ would certainly be shocked, and possibly awed, too. µ
