Outfit offers free, ad-funded mobile games

Play against other fonefreaks, or Uncle Joe

WIRENODE, WHICH sprung to fame from offering Fanerotica, has moved into free mobile interactive games with the re-launch of its Cotopia site.

The hope is that building adverts into the games will help fund further development. At present you can play Chess, Reversi, TicTacToe and Connect 4 against other users or against a computer using AI.

The INQ downloaded Tic Tac Toe from http://cotopia.mobi using a WAP browser and was pleasantly surprised to see that the Cotopia site correctly identified the Nokia E65 being used.

Once loaded, we bravely searched for an opponent but it was probably too early in the day for other fonefreakers to be online. So we picked the AI Robot icon.

Before the game starts you see a picture of your opponent and in this case he bore more than a striking resemblance to Stalin.

Naturally, we let the game time out before losing.

More shoot-em-up style games are promised in the form of Battle Blocks, and Sea battle. Then there's going to be Ball shot (no idea what that is), Chequers and Go plus the inevitable Poker.

Cotopia's Tomas Zeman tells us that the ads will first appear on the mobile site and then be added into the games later. " We plan to release open API for the platform, so anybody would be able to create new games using it," he says. ยต
