Lenovo to cut workforce by 650

Efficiency drive as it shifts jobs

PC FIRM Lenovo said 1,400 employees worldwide will be affected by an efficiency drive, with 750 positions moved to emerging markets and its manufacturing operations in Asia.

That means 650 people will lose their jobs which will let it claw back savings of $100 million in the current 2007-2008 financial year which started April 1st.

Levo CEO and president William Amelio said: "We must make our organisation more efficient by reducing expense."

It's going to ingegrate software testing into Lenovo China, centralise teams integrate customer support.

It's already started talking to Lenovo European in line with trade unions.

Amelio said that it needs to be more efficient at delivery, and increase competitiveness. ยต
