Infrared cameras to count UK car passengers

Another breakthrough in tracking people
Wed Jul 28 2004, 16:35
AS EVERYONE knows, the UK doesn't have enough people to man or woman the one in 14 CCTVs that watch our every move here in Blighty.

But regardless of that, a British firm is developing infrared cameras which will monitor the number of people travelling in a car, as a build up to traffic schemes the UK government is proposing.

Web site E4 Engineering said that prototypes of cameras developed by Laser Optical Engineering, has already developed a prototype infrared system in conjunction with the Department for Transport.

The infrared camera will apparently be able to distinguish between false passengers such as cardboard cut outs, dogs and dummies of the non-human persuasion. ยต
