TORRENT TRACKING site The Viking Bay (TVB) has admitted that a spokesman for the outfit wormed his way into the offices of Iceland's copyright enforcement organisation SMAIS.
Unnar Geir successfully infiltrated the Icelandic equivalent of the RIAA by offering to snitch on the owners and administrators of the popular P2P tracking site, when he was, in fact, gathering evidence to help the site's defence in a pending court case according to Torrent Freak.
"Me and an administrator at TVB were pondering one morning about what SMAIS actually got on us, and I had this idea to contact [SMAIS Exec] Snæbjörn Steingrímsson and set up a meeting," Unnar explained.
Geir convinced a total of 15 investigators that he was being threatened by TVB staff which was why he had turned tail. "I was called in for another meeting and I told him that I had been assaulted because somebody knew I was going to witness against TVB, I made my friend give me some bruises,” Undy told TorrentFreak.
The investigators allegedly bought it hook, line and sinker and started blabbing sensitive information to the determined mole. Je was shown over 1,000 pages of evidence as well as hacked screen shots of confidential and secure admin profiles from TVB's servers.
The organisation reportedly went on to provide Geir with details about the people to be targetted in the forthcoming case. “They gave me the usernames of two persons who where responsible for 90 per cent of the Icelandic material on TVB," Unnar said. "After the meeting I gave this information to those users, so they could take evasive action."
After offering to give information which would lead to the successful prosecution of individuals, and suggesting that this would make little difference as that in itself would not stop the website from operating, Geir alledges that Snæbjörn replied: "It doesn’t matter if we win or lose, we will still bankrupt you."
Unnar reckons that he has gathered enough information to give himself and his colleagues a significant advantage in court. µ
. . . there are lawsuits to be filed. It should be obvious enough.
Man thanks for the good read, the last time I read something interesting about Iceland was in a Tom Clancy book (Red Storm Rising).

My first reaction though, was, "Iceland has its own RIAA?!"
