SUN MICROSYSTEMS said that as of today it will be offering the VMware Infrastructure product suite on Sun hardware systems with full support from Sun.
The deal extends Sun relationship with the virtualisation outfit. In a statement, Diane Greene, president and CEO of VMware said the agreement represented a, "new milestone in our on-going relationship with Sun gives customers what they want: a combination of advanced technologies that deliver strong business value.”
Sun is showing off Sun Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Software 2.0 here at VMworld Europe 2008. It says the agreement now allows customers to purchase complete systems directly from Sun, including Sun Ray virtual display thin clients, Sun VDI Software 2.0 and VMware virtualisation software. Sun's Solaris Operating System is a guest operating system on VMware virtualisation software. VMware Infrastructure will appear as a datacentre virtualisation run-time and management stack on Sun x64 systems. The two companies said they also plan to collaborate on system management configuration, deployment and monitoring for each other's products. µ
Isn't it supposed to be the other way round? Like Solaris as a host, and other's as a guest?
