ANOTHER baby has been offered for sale online – this time on Craigslist.
Last week, a German couple had their baby boy taken from them when they tried to flog it on Ebay. Now Vancouver coppers have arrested and released a couple who allegedly offered to sell a seven-day-old baby girl on the Craigslist website for $10,000.
Constable Tim Fanning told hacks that in 27 years in policing he never thought he would see something like this.
The Craigslist advert said that the baby was very cute and the seller was looking for a good home. The coppers found the address by tracking the phone number at the bottom of the advert.
The found the 23 year-old woman breast feeding a baby at an address which was occupied by four adults.
The arrested pair told police that the advert was a hoax.; They were initially charged with public mischief. The charges were dropped for a lack of evidence.
However social services have since taken the child into care.
In the German case, which was more likely to have been a jolly jape, the seller did not provide a phone number or put in a reserve bid. This one does seem to have been a bit specific about price and delivery of service. However with no evidence, one wonders how social services could take the baby away from her comedy parents. µ

Seems simple, let the cops pretend to be customers, do an offer, see if it was a hoax or not, done.
Of course the police departments don't have the brainpower to think up such a simple check so it's waiting for some official who has a wayward son or daughter who comes up with the idea and it then moving down the pipeline to the police manual and then it can be used.
The parents were (and are?) drug addicts according to the Canadian national news provided by cops. They provided a phone number that was real to the couple. Doesn't seem like a hoax to me. That's why the baby was taken - at the very least, a terrible sense of judgement for this 2.
